Japan holds over 200 days of oil reserves.
Australia holds less than 30.
Japan is an island nation with no oil.
Australia is one of the world’s largest exporters.
Guess which one is running out?

Australia exports $65 billion of gas a year and collects only $2 billion in tax on it
(less than what we collect from student debt alone)
The tax was designed in 1988 for offshore oil. When gas took over as Australia’s dominant export, the same broken framework was applied to it, and the companies figured out how to pay almost nothing.
They’re legally allowed to understate the value of gas before liquefaction (the taxable part) while overstating the processing costs that aren’t.
LNG prices in Asia are up 60% since the war started. Australian electricity bills follow.

Hello to all my new friends in Japan!
My name is Vanessa. I am originally from Australia, but I currently live in Dubai. I own 8 racehorses and also trade cryptocurrencies. I usually post about financial markets. I’m happy to meet you all! I want to learn more about you and hope to meet interesting people.
Maybe you can teach me about Japan.

Australia just halved its fuel tax.
26 cents off per litre (approximately $19 off a full tank) effective Wednesday.
Cost to the budget is $2.55 billion
Here’s what that doesn’t fix:
— 608 petrol stations still dry
— 3 weeks of diesel left in reserve
— 6 weeks of fertiliser before winter crops fail
— a war now entering its 5th week
The $19 saving disappears if oil hits $150 a barrel
April 6 is Trump’s next deadline for Iran.

If Australia declares a fuel emergency, here’s who gets unlimited fuel:
✅ Police
✅ Ambulance
✅ Fire trucks
✅ Prisons
✅ Buses
✅ Taxis
Everyone else gets $40 per visit:
❌ Doctors driving to hospital
❌ Nurses
❌ Farmers
❌ Truck drivers delivering your food
❌ You
$40 at current prices is about 15 litres. Roughly 200km.
This law has existed since 1984 and never invoked.

600 petrol stations across Australia ran out of fuel this week according to Bloomberg
Just over 20 years ago we had 8 refineries and produced 98% of our own fuel. Today we have only 2
The governments emergency plan in 2020 was to buy 1.7 million barrels and store them in underground salt caverns in Texas. But only 2 years later they sold it all . It was never replaced. Australia currently has zero government owned oil reserves anywhere on earth and no tankers to bring any home anyway.
Our government’s message today is to “be a good neighbour, don’t panic buy”
Mid April is when the last confir
