Golden Finance reports, on April 8. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday morning local time, in an interview with ABC News, that after the two-week ceasefire announced on Tuesday, the United States may seek to form a joint project with Iran to protect the security of the Strait of Hormuz. When asked whether he would allow Tehran to collect shipping fees for vessels transiting this strategic waterway, Trump said, “We’re considering implementing it as a joint venture. This is a way to protect the strait—also a way to prevent many other countries from getting involved.” Trump added, “This is a very wonderful thing.” Trump also said he would not allow Iran to retain any uranium enrichment capability, even though Tehran has repeatedly claimed it will not give up the freedom to do so. Trump said the U.S. armed forces in the region will not withdraw either, suggesting they will stay on the ground to carry out any agreement reached in the future. Trump expects the peace talks to begin on Friday and to move forward rapidly.
