Looking back on the development history of prediction markets over the years, I can't help but feel a mix of emotions. From the initial niche experiments to today's billion-dollar industry, this field has experienced many ups and downs. Currently, the regulatory turmoil faced by Kalshi seems to echo the early days of Bitcoin. Back then, there were constant controversies and doubts, but ultimately, a path was carved out.

The recent bans on platforms like Kalshi in Connecticut, along with lawsuits in Nevada, are testing the survival bottom line of prediction markets. Interestingly, the more turbulent the environment, the more frenzied the users become. Valuations soaring to $11 billion demonstrate the market’s confidence in this track.

In the long run, prediction markets carry more than just speculative demand; they serve as a social risk pricing mechanism. Whether for hedging political risks or quantifying public expectations, they play an irreplaceable role. The current legal disputes may just be the growing pains of a nascent industry.

The key is to find a balance between compliance and innovation. After all, excessive regulation could stifle innovation, while unchecked freedom might lead to chaos. We look forward to regulatory authorities adopting a more open mindset to establish scientific and reasonable rules for this emerging market. Ultimately, the future of prediction markets concerns not only the fate of one or two companies but also the evolution of the entire financial system.
