ME News, on December 5 (UTC+8), the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia has recovered and confirmed ownership of 420,740.422314 USDT and 1,249,996.15 BUSD through a civil asset forfeiture procedure. These assets are proceeds from cryptocurrency investment fraud and property involved in money laundering activities. Both USDT and BUSD are cryptocurrencies pegged to the US dollar. Currently, the U.S. is in the process of returning these assets to the victims.

According to court documents, the fraudsters contacted victims via SMS and social media, luring them to communicate using encrypted messaging apps. After gaining the victims’ trust, the fraudsters induced them to “invest” cryptocurrency through a fake investment website, but in reality, the victims’ funds were transferred to the fraudsters’ accounts. U.S. Secret Service agents seized these assets from three cryptocurrency wallets. (Source: MetaEra)
