【US Employment Data Indicator Turns Murky】December 31st, a top investment bank's economist team recently issued a statement saying that the unemployment claim data before and after the holiday season should be questioned. During the week of Christmas, initial unemployment claims dropped from 215,000 to 199,000, which sounds good, but analysts had originally estimated 220,000. The problem is—this wave of seasonal adjustment during the holiday season is more intense than in previous years, which discounts the credibility of the data. Economists' judgment is: "The truly reliable initial claim signals will only become clear in the latter half of January."

But on the other hand, the scale of layoffs is still relatively low. The same group of institutions predicts that non-farm employment will increase by 75,000 in December, and this key data will be revealed next week. Interestingly, they also expect the unemployment rate to rise to 4.7%—mainly because the labor force participation rate is expected to go up again.
