Chungcheongbuk-do Police Department’s Wide-Area Prevention Patrol Team has strengthened on-site prevention awareness activities to respond to increasingly sophisticated voice phishing techniques that allow citizens to verify information instantly.

On the 17th, the Chungcheongbuk-do Police Department’s Wide-Area Prevention Patrol Team announced that they have independently produced and distributed card-style promotional materials at hospitals and financial institutions, allowing citizens to scan QR codes with their phones to view the main types of voice phishing crimes, response tips, and prevention guidelines. Recently, voice phishing methods have evolved from impersonating family members, investigation agencies, or financial companies to various forms such as loan conversions and inducing app installations. This approach is characterized by enabling citizens to quickly access core information.

The police regard these promotional materials as on-site response tools rather than mere guidelines. Through collaboration with financial institutions, they can immediately provide prevention information when suspicious transactions or abnormal signs appear. Additionally, by distributing these materials at public facilities like hospitals, people of all ages can naturally encounter the relevant content. For citizens unfamiliar with digital devices, patrols also distribute promotional materials directly and provide explanations.

Such measures can be seen as a response plan to the dangers of voice phishing crimes—these crimes not only cause personal financial loss but also significantly impact overall life, especially among the elderly and financially vulnerable groups. Criminal organizations often cleverly mix the names of public institutions with financial terminology to provoke victims’ anxiety, making it especially important to understand typical methods in advance and develop a habit of vigilance.

Chen Ming-ki, head of the Wide-Area Prevention Patrol Team, stated that as voice phishing techniques become more intelligent and high-end, the scale of victims continues to expand. The police will continue to carry out diverse prevention awareness activities to help citizens stay alert and protect themselves. In the future, such measures are expected to further expand into a prevention system involving police, financial institutions, and communities working together closely in daily life.
