I just saw an interesting news piece about Iran’s position regarding their nuclear form. So, according to Foreign Minister Menteri Luar Negeri Araghchi’s statement at the end of February, Iran’s peaceful nuclear program can’t be resolved through military means. This is actually a fairly firm statement from Iran.
What’s interesting is that Araghchi reminded people of previous efforts that were carried out to disrupt this program, ranging from attacks on facilities to the assassination of scientists, but all of those failed to dismantle the nuclear form that was the result of their own independent development. Because this technology was developed on their own, it can’t be destroyed through bombing or any military action.
From Jin10, we can see that this situation actually forces the United States to return to the negotiating table. This shows that the nuclear form is a fundamental issue and can’t be resolved through hard power. Araghchi clearly emphasized that diplomacy is the only viable solution to address this problem.
What needs to be noted is that Iran itself shows willingness for peace and is ready to negotiate, but it is also firm about defending their national security. So the nuclear form is a strong bargaining chip in negotiations. This is an interesting case of how geopolitics and diplomacy interact on the international stage.
