I just realized that many people on social media don't really know what 1k in money actually means. So here is the simplest possible explanation.
Let's start with the basics. When you see 1K anywhere, that means 1k. The K comes from "kilo" and period. If someone says they earned 10K on YouTube, that’s 10k dollars. 100K is 100k. Easy, right?
Now, if you want to understand what 1k in money means in larger contexts, you also need to know the other terms. 1M is one million (1k,000). Imagine multiplying 1K by a thousand, and that gives you 1M. When they say a video has 5M views, that’s 5 million views.
And then there’s 1B, which is a billion in Spanish (1k,000,000). That’s one billion. That’s how they talk about company valuations or cryptocurrencies when they reach really large numbers.
In practice, if you work online, you see this all the time. A freelancer says they billed 50K this month. A trader comments they moved 2M in volume. A crypto project reaches a 500M market cap. Knowing exactly what 1k in money and its multiples mean helps you quickly understand the scale we’re talking about.
The mental table that helps you: 1K = thousand, 1M = one million, 1B = one billion. That’s all you need to remember. Once you have it clear, numbers stop being confusing.
If you’re looking at tokens on trading platforms, you’ll see these numbers constantly. Some projects have market caps of 100K, others of 50M, and the big ones are in the range of 1B or more. Understanding the scale helps you better evaluate what you’re seeing.
