Many people think that mining crypto at home is no longer possible, but that's not entirely true. Yes, you can't mine Bitcoin on a home PC, but there are other coins that can actually be mined on a regular computer if you know how to mine on a PC correctly.

The simplest way is to choose a cryptocurrency that doesn't require expensive equipment. Let's start with Dogecoin (DOGE). It's funny that this coin started as a meme, but Elon Musk popularized it, and now it has a serious audience. The difference between DOGE and Bitcoin is that new coins are added every year, and there isn't a strict limit. This is a good incentive for miners.

If you want to mine DOGE, first create a wallet — a standard Dogecoin wallet or an online version will do. For CPU mining, there's CPU miner, but the speed will be low. To improve it, you'll need a graphics card — AMD or Nvidia. For GPU, use cgminer or cudaminer. Of course, there is a way to mine on a PC yourself, but it's more effective to join a pool like MultiPool. There, the speed and income are higher. After mining DOGE, you can sell it on major trading platforms.

There's also Ethereum Classic (ETC). When the main Ethereum switched to Proof of Stake in October 2022, it was a gift for ETC. All the power previously used for ETH mining can now be directed to ETC. Although ETC is also mined on ASIC machines, a home computer will do too. You can sell the mined coins on major exchanges.

The third option is Bitcoin Gold (BTG). This is a fork of the original Bitcoin, launched in 2017. The project is not very active in development now, but its capitalization and trading volumes are decent. BTG uses the Equihash-BTG (also known as Zhash) algorithm. Its price usually moves along with Bitcoin. Mining such a coin on a PC is also possible, and finding buyers isn't difficult.

So, if you know how to mine on a PC and choose the right coin, home mining is still alive. The main thing is not to expect big profits from the first day, but as a hobby or an additional income source, it's a quite viable option.
