The Psychologist's Office — I Have Treated 100 Patients Who "Sold the Top" of Bitcoin

I am a psychologist specializing in "Cryptocurrency FOMO." In April 2026, among my patients, 100 experienced insomnia due to "selling the top." Here are three typical cases:

Case A: Selling ETH at the Top in 2017
Patient: "In 2017, I spent $1,000 to buy 500 ETH, costing $2 each. I sold everything when it dropped to $10 in 2018, and I lost."
Me: "You lost money?"
Patient: "No, I didn't lose the principal, but those ETH are now worth $1 million."
Me: "Why did you sell back then?"
Patient: "Because I was afraid it would go to zero."
Diagnosis: Normal risk-avoidance reaction, not a disorder.

Case B: Selling BTC at the Top in 2021
Patient: "I bought 2 BTC in 2020, averaging $10k each. It rose to $60k in 2021, but I didn't sell. In 2022, it dropped to $20k, and I cut my losses."
Me: "How much did you lose?"
Patient: "My principal was $20k; I sold for $40k, making a $20k profit. But if I held until now, it would be worth $130k."
Diagnosis: A cycle of greed and fear.
Treatment suggestion: Dollar-cost averaging, avoid watching the market.

Case C: Selling SUI at the Top in April 2026
Patient: "Last week, I bought 10,000 SUI at $0.80, sold at $0.90, making $1,000 profit. Then it rose to $1.20."
Me: "You made a profit, why are you distressed?"
Patient: "Because I missed out on an additional $3,000."
Diagnosis: Anchoring effect.
Treatment: Shift focus away from "unrealized profits."

My Prescription
During the April challenge, I asked patients to post daily on Gate Square, writing "Today I earned X, but I will not regret." I also rewarded dollar-cost averaging with red envelopes. After a month, 90% of patients experienced symptom relief. Remember: Selling the top is not a disorder; regret is.
And the only way to cure regret is to never torment yourself with "what if."
