I've been thinking about why Shiba Inu earned the meme coin label, and honestly, it makes sense when you look at the story behind it.
It all started with visual inspiration. Like Dogecoin, SHIB adopted the image of a Shiba Inu as its identity, based on that internet meme that exploded years ago with pictures of the dog accompanied by humorous broken English texts. That already gives you a hint as to why it ended up being classified as a meme coin.
But what's interesting is how it spread. The team behind Shiba Inu understood something fundamental: viral marketing works. They actively used memes and social media to reach people who might not have been looking for technological innovation but simply fun and entertaining content. And it worked spectacularly.
Ryoshi, the creator, didn't even disguise it as something serious. He described the project as a decentralized community management experiment, basically a joke with a purpose. That's what sets many memecoins apart: they don't pretend to be the next blockchain revolution but embrace humor as part of their identity.
The comparison with Dogecoin was inevitable. Both cryptocurrencies operate on the same premise: community, humor, and active participation. SHIB even earned the nickname "Dogecoin killer," though they are really cousins in the meme coin world.
What really accelerated everything was the viral dynamic. The ShibArmy community took the project and turned it into a social media phenomenon, constantly generating content. This created a snowball effect that led to rapid and widespread adoption.
And then there's the economic factor. Initially, SHIB had an extremely low price, allowing anyone to buy millions or even billions of tokens with little money. That created the illusion that a small price movement could result in significant gains, attracting a much broader audience.
In conclusion, Shiba Inu is a meme coin because it fully embraces that identity: internet culture, community marketing, economic accessibility, and that touch of humor that makes it different. Like other meme cryptocurrencies, SHIB proved that community and virality can be as powerful as any blockchain technology.
