Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating banking details for their SASSA grants. So let me break down what I learned because it's actually different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting permanent grants (old age, disability, child grant), you can't do this online unfortunately. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office, fill out the Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID and a recent bank statement (not older than 3 months). The whole thing takes about 21 working days to process, so if you need it done by next month, submit before the 15th or you'll miss that payment cycle.

But here's the thing - if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way easier. The whole thing is online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure SMS link, you click it and update your bank details right there. Takes way less time. Just make sure the account is actually in your name though, they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that.

Also don't forget about updating your phone number if you changed it. For SRD, use their contact portal and they'll send you an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit the office. There's a ton of fake websites out there claiming they can help with this stuff, so stick to the official SASSA site.

Has anyone actually had to do this recently? How long did the whole updating banking details process take for you?
