Just realized a lot of people are still confused about updating their SASSA details, especially when December payments are coming up. Let me break down what actually works because I've seen folks struggle with this.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you literally cannot change your banking details online. You have to go in person to a SASSA office. Yeah, I know, seems outdated but that's how it is. You'll need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form, bring your original ID plus a copy, and get proof of your new bank account. They want either a bank statement from the last three months or an official letter from the bank. One important thing - the account has to be solely in your name. No joint accounts, no third-party nonsense. Then they send it to the bank for verification which takes up to 21 working days. If you want it processed for next month's payment, submit before the 15th.

Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's totally different. Everything's online through their portal, which is actually way easier. You go to the SASSA SRD website, enter your 13-digit ID, they send you a link via SMS, you click it and update your account details there. Same rule though - has to be your account only. Takes a few days to weeks for verification.

For changing your cellphone number on permanent grants, just call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. SRD users can do it online through their contact portal - enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, they send an OTP for verification. One heads up though - there are fake SASSA websites out there trying to scam people, so always use the official links.

Basically, permanent grants = in-person office visit. SRD grant = online portal. Don't miss the 15th deadline for permanent grants or you're waiting another month. And yeah, keep those details updated because missed payments are the worst.
