Stablecoins are starting to feel like a game of strategy.
The U.S. is preparing to unveil details of a bill next week,
with the main focus being: whether stablecoins can still generate yields and how to do so.
The issue is, a few days ago, a draft was shown to a small group within the industry,
and companies like Coinbase were quite dissatisfied.
Now, they are working on counter-proposals and preparing to renegotiate the terms.
In other words:
Regulators want to tighten control,
while the industry doesn't want to give up the yield aspect.
This point is actually quite critical.
Many people now see stablecoins essentially as cash with some yield.
If this gets restricted, the impact won't just be on projects,
but on the entire way of playing the game.
My personal feeling is:
It's unlikely there will be a complete ban,
but the days of freely earning yields will probably gradually tighten.
Next, it will come down to how both sides tug and pull,
and who can sway the rules more in their favor.
