Govt Notifies New Order To Fast-Track Natural Gas Infrastructure Expansion
(MENAFN- KNN India) ** New Delhi, Mar 25 (KNN)** A new order under the Essential Commodities Act has been notified by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to accelerate the development of natural gas supply infrastructure amid disruptions linked to the Middle East crisis.
** Framework To Accelerate Gas Infrastructure Expansion**
The ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution (Through Laying, Building, Operation and Expansion of Pipelines and Other Facilities) Order’ establishes a time-bound framework for laying and expanding pipeline networks across the country.
The move aims to address longstanding challenges such as delays in approvals and issues related to land access that have slowed infrastructure rollout.
According to the ministry, the order, published in the Extraordinary Gazette of India, comes into immediate effect and provides a transparent and investor-friendly framework to support efficient gas distribution, faster infrastructure expansion, and wider access to cleaner energy.
** Boost To Clean Energy Transition And Connectivity**
The reform is expected to facilitate the expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) networks, improve last-mile connectivity, and promote the adoption of cleaner fuels across households, transport, and industrial sectors.
It aligns with India’s broader goal of transitioning towards a gas-based economy while strengthening energy security.
At its core, the order seeks to simplify procedures, reduce regulatory bottlenecks, and create a predictable operating environment for stakeholders. Key features include a transparent regulatory structure, greater operational flexibility for companies, and a consumer-centric approach to service delivery.
The government noted that rising energy demand and evolving global energy dynamics require a more resilient and diversified energy system. The order is expected to support faster infrastructure development and position natural gas as a key transition fuel in India’s energy mix.
