Here's roughly what happened: Maria, her boyfriend, and several female colleagues went on a trip to Thailand. When transiting through Shanghai, they used powder drugs, but it wasn't discovered at the time. After entering Thailand, they were discovered and arrested at a checkpoint, but they bribed the police with bundles of cash and were released.
After being released, the other hostesses fled separately. As it turned out, Maria and her boyfriend actually flew back to China again, and were finally arrested at Guangzhou Airport.
