Wuxi’s High-Tech Zone in Jiangsu Province announced in March an ambitious set of 12 incentive policies called “Lobsters,” aimed at developing open innovation ecosystems. The initiative offers substantial financial support, with individual subsidies reaching up to 5 million yuan, seeking to establish the region as a prominent tech hub.

Generous subsidies for open-source platforms and projects

The “Lobsters” policy package provides full support to local cloud platforms that offer development tools at no additional cost, with direct subsidies of up to 1 million yuan per platform. For projects classified as OPC that utilize regional intelligent computing infrastructure, financial support will be granted based on actual expenses, limited to 300,000 yuan annually per company.

Additionally, initiatives focused on developing AI models in specific sectors, such as industrial inspection and predictive maintenance of equipment using the OpenClaw platform, will receive awards of up to 500,000 yuan upon national registration.

Targeted support for AI and smart manufacturing through the “Lobsters” policies

The package allocates up to 5 million yuan for key technological advancements in intelligent robotics and autonomous inspection systems, strategic sectors for industrial digital transformation. At the same time, there is strong encouragement for the creation of collaborative laboratories themed “AI + Manufacturing,” with a maximum award of 1 million yuan for entities leading the development of innovative technological frameworks or industrial process standardization.

Why the “Lobsters” policies matter for the local ecosystem

This set of incentives reflects Wuxi’s commitment to strengthening its position as a technological innovation hub in the Yangtze River Delta region. By focusing resources on open-source communities, cloud infrastructure, and industrial AI applications, the high-tech zone aims to attract skilled talent and forge strategic partnerships that promote sustainable growth of the local tech industry. The “Lobsters” policies represent a multifaceted strategy that goes beyond simple subsidy distribution, serving as a tool for economic transformation and systemic innovation.
