Bank of England Governor Quickly Eases Rate Hike Expectations After Surge in Market Speculation

March 19 – Bank of England Governor Bailey said in an interview with BBC reporters that the market has been somewhat hasty in its expectations regarding interest rate hikes.
“I would caution everyone against hastily drawing definitive conclusions about whether interest rates should be raised… Today, we have already sent a very clear message.
The most appropriate course of action at this moment is to keep interest rates unchanged.”
Bailey stated that they will “carefully and continuously” monitor the scale and severity of this conflict.
He also pointed out that this is not 2022, when inflation soared to double digits, and interest rates were sharply and dramatically increased, indicating that interest rates were already high at that time, among other things.
