For the first time this week, the Peace Council founded by Trump will convene in Washington. At the center of the debate: the situation in the Gaza Strip and possible solutions. With 19 signatory states, the body is developing as a counterweight to traditional UN structures.

Particularly noteworthy: Although the EU Commission did not join as a full member, it is sending a delegate to the meeting. This signals Brussels' willingness to be involved in peace talks on the Gaza Strip – even if through alternative diplomatic channels. For the Commission, it is an opportunity to bring European positions on Middle East policy into the discussion without formally committing itself to the new council.

The participation could be a sign that Europe does not want to stand aside on the Gaza Strip and regional stability issues, but rather intervenes constructively in international dialogue.
