According to Decrypt, cryptocurrency ATM operator Bitcoin Depot announced that it will begin verifying identities and requesting personal IDs from customers each time they use its ATM. This is a voluntary measure to improve compliance procedures in response to increasing pressure from state prosecutors. The company currently operates 8,800 ATMs across North America and states that requiring personal ID for each transaction aims to combat attempts such as account sharing, identity theft, and account takeover. Previously, the company only required customers to provide ID when first using the service in October of last year. Due to multiple factors, Bitcoin Depot's stock price has plummeted 80% over the past six months.
