Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association, Cui Dongshu: China's car market share will reach 35.6% of the world in 2025

Secretary General Cui Dongshu of the China Passenger Car Association stated that global vehicle sales in December 2025 reached 8.86 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2%. As the Chinese and U.S. auto markets slow down relatively, global vehicle sales growth in December 2025 has also decelerated. From January to December 2025, total sales were 96.47 million units, a year-on-year increase of 5%. During this period, global auto sales grew by 5%, with China selling 34.35 million units, up 9%; the U.S. selling 16.72 million units, up 1%; India selling 5.58 million units, up 7%; Japan selling 4.56 million units, up 3%; and Germany selling 3.16 million units, up 1%. Currently, the Chinese market is the most dynamic with the fastest growth. The Russian market has experienced a severe decline, while growth in Mexico has slowed, and markets in South America such as Argentina performed relatively well. China’s share of the global auto market continues to increase, with China’s global share rising back to a high of 40% in November and remaining at a good level of 37% in December. In 2024, China’s auto market reached 34.2%, and in 2025, China’s market share is projected to reach 35.6% of the world, an increase of 1.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
