On February 23, Horizon Automotive issued a statement regarding a vehicle fire in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. Horizon Automotive stated that on February 21, 2026, a Horizon M9 caught fire near Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. No injuries or fatalities occurred. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle’s three-electric system was functioning normally, and no other abnormalities were observed in the vehicle itself. It is determined that the incident was not caused by the vehicle’s own faults.
Horizon Automotive stated that they will closely cooperate with relevant authorities to complete the follow-up investigation and actively assist users with subsequent matters.
Regarding the issue of spontaneous combustion in new energy vehicles, Huawei Executive Director, Product Investment Committee Director, and Terminal Business Group Chairman Yu Chengdong previously stated that vehicles equipped with HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving maintain a record of “zero spontaneous fires.” He pointed out that this is due to Huawei’s self-developed BMS (Battery Management System) technology, which monitors voltage, current, temperature, and other parameters in real-time, combined with cloud big data and artificial intelligence algorithms, effectively preventing battery thermal runaway risks. At the same time, Huawei’s component quality standards are far higher than industry norms; many parts that can pass quality inspection in other automakers cannot pass within Huawei’s system, which is one of the reasons for the higher reliability of its products.
The Horizon M9 is a flagship mid-to-large SUV under the AITO brand, jointly designed by Seres Motors and Huawei HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving. It is positioned as a “Panoramic Intelligent Flagship SUV” and was released on December 26, 2023. As of January 2026, cumulative deliveries of the Horizon M9 have exceeded 270,000 units. It won the annual sales champion among luxury models priced above 500,000 yuan in the Chinese market in 2025 and has maintained the top spot in this segment for 21 consecutive months.
Behind its sales success is the Horizon M9’s adoption of Huawei’s leading intelligent technology, along with comprehensive product configurations, which have earned it a very high user recommendation score (NPS). According to a report by Jielanlu Consulting, the net promoter score (NPS) of the Horizon M9 ranked first among all models multiple times throughout 2024, as well as in the first and second halves of 2025. It is the first and only model in the new energy SUV segment to have achieved this top ranking four consecutive times.
It is worth noting that the Horizon M9 is equipped with Huawei’s Qian Kun Intelligent Driving ADS 4 system, based on the new WEWA architecture, providing a driving experience closer to human habits. Last December, HarmonyOS Intelligent Driving partnered with the Shenzhen Transportation Bureau and other relevant departments to initiate L3 conditional autonomous driving internal testing in Shenzhen. According to insiders, this pilot was jointly promoted by Shenzhen’s Transportation Bureau, Development and Reform Commission, and other departments, with Huawei employees participating using their own purchased 2025 Horizon M9 and Zunjie S800 models.
