A verification code is a security token sent to your registered device when someone attempts to access your account. This temporary code serves as proof of identity during login, adding an extra layer of protection beyond your password alone.

In practice, a verification code works as part of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) systems. When you try to sign into your account, the platform sends a unique numeric code—typically 6 digits—to your phone, email, or authenticator app. You must enter this code within a limited time window to complete the login process. Because the code is time-limited and changes constantly, it's nearly impossible for unauthorized users to gain access even if they have your password.

This security mechanism ensures that only you can confirm access from your device, making it a critical defense against account takeovers and unauthorized access. Verification codes remain one of the most reliable methods for protecting sensitive accounts across financial platforms, social media, and crypto exchanges.
