Cui Dongshu: China's overseas auto production and sales system has completed the critical transition from "product going abroad" to "industry going abroad"

On February 21, Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association, stated that according to customs data, China’s total vehicle exports reached 8.32 million units in 2025. Although this figure has sparked some skepticism in the market, when looking beyond the single vehicle export statistic and from a globalized full-industry chain perspective, China’s manufacturing and independent brand vehicle overseas sales have already surpassed 9 million units. This number includes direct exports of independent brand vehicles, exports from international automakers’ Chinese bases, overseas assembly of KD parts, and sales from Chinese independent brand overseas bases. It is not only a milestone achievement in the globalization of China’s automotive industry but also marks a critical transformation of China’s overseas production and sales system from “product going abroad” to “industry going abroad.” Currently, Chinese automakers are advancing steadily along the development pattern of the global automotive industry, with coordinated growth in complete vehicles, parts, and overseas bases, aiming for an overseas sales target of 20 million units.
