US Government Reopens Shutdown Ends in 4 Days⌛
Washington DC – U.S. President Donald Trump officially ended the four-day partial government shutdown on February 3, 2026, by signing the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026. In a statement from the Oval Office, Trump said, “I am very pleased to immediately reopen the federal government and to fund the vast majority of operations for the remainder of the fiscal year.”
The law includes a spending package of approximately $1.2 trillion and provides full funding for departments such as Defense, Education, Health and Human Services, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development until September 30, 2026. However, funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was only extended until February 13. This short period appears to have been deliberately left to create room for negotiation with Democrats regarding the Trump administration’s mass deportation plans and ICE operations. The shutdown began amidst political tensions that erupted after federal immigration agents killed two American citizens in Minneapolis. The Senate approved the bill last week, but the House of Representatives narrowly passed it with a 214-217 vote – 21 Republicans and 21 Democrats defecting from their parties. Trump posed for photos with House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican leaders while signing the bill. White House officials emphasized that they acted quickly to minimize the impact of the shutdown on the economy and federal employees. The release of some data, such as labor market statistics, was also temporarily delayed. Now, all eyes are on February 13th. DHS funding will end again on that date, and a new battle over immigration policies seems set to begin.
