How Many Bitcoin Millionaires Are There? 145,100 Holders Mark 70% Annual Surge

The global cryptocurrency landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation, with bitcoin millionaires becoming an increasingly significant demographic. According to the Crypto Wealth Report 2025 by Henley & Partners, working alongside New World Wealth, the total population of crypto millionaires reached 241,700, representing a 40% expansion year-over-year. Most notably, bitcoin millionaires—those holding portfolios exceeding $1 million in BTC—climbed 70% to 145,100 holders, positioning Bitcoin as the dominant wealth creator in the digital asset sector.

This expansion aligns with a broader cryptocurrency market rally, where total digital asset market capitalization surged to $3.3 trillion in mid-2025, a 45% increase compared to the prior year. More recently, Bitcoin itself has strengthened significantly, trading around $77,680, reflecting continued investor confidence in the world’s largest cryptocurrency. Beyond sheer numbers, the concentration of wealth at the top tells an equally compelling story: 36 individuals now qualify as crypto billionaires, while 450 additional holders control at least $100 million in cryptocurrency assets.

The Shift from Speculation to Financial Infrastructure

Bitcoin’s role in wealth accumulation has fundamentally shifted. Rather than serving as a speculative vehicle for price appreciation, Bitcoin increasingly functions as collateral and a foundational layer for a parallel financial system. Industry analysts and experts observe that this transformation marks a turning point in how digital assets are perceived within institutional and high-net-worth circles.

“Bitcoin is becoming the foundation of a parallel financial system, where it is not merely an investment for speculation on fiat price appreciation, but the base currency for accumulating wealth,” explained Philipp A. Baumann, founder of Z22 Technologies, in the report. This evolution underscores a maturing market where Bitcoin transitions from a purely speculative asset to a wealth-preservation and wealth-building instrument comparable to traditional stores of value.

Geography Becomes Optional: Crypto’s Borderless Nature

Crypto’s decentralized architecture is redrawing the traditional map of global wealth. Investors increasingly pursue citizenship and residency programs across crypto-friendly jurisdictions to optimize their financial positioning while navigating regulatory uncertainty. Henley & Partners’ Crypto Adoption Index identifies Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States, Switzerland, and the UAE as the top-ranked destinations for digital asset investors.

The portability of cryptocurrency—secured by nothing more than a memorized seed phrase—fundamentally challenges centuries of place-based financial systems. With over $14 trillion in wealth crossing borders annually, the cryptocurrency infrastructure enables unprecedented freedom in wealth management. “Today, cryptocurrency has made geography optional — with nothing more than 12 memorized words, an individual can secure a billion dollars in Bitcoin, instantly accessible from Zurich or Zhengzhou alike,” stated Dominic Volek, Group Head of Private Clients at Henley & Partners.

This democratization of access marks a profound departure from traditional wealth management, where geographic constraints and banking relationships previously dictated financial outcomes. Bitcoin millionaires and other cryptocurrency holders now operate within a framework where location decisions are driven by personal preference and tax considerations rather than necessity.
