Abstract generation in progress

In recent days, users from the crypto ecosystem have alerted about an aggressive phishing campaign circulating on social media platforms. According to analysis conducted by NS3.AI, attackers are attempting to imitate the identities of well-known projects, especially by using fake verification badges that resemble official ones. These fraud attempts pose an increasing threat to the security of enthusiasts in the cryptocurrency industry.

How this phishing operation works

The attacker network operates by sending direct messages to users, presenting fake accounts equipped with counterfeit verification badges. In a known case, they pretended to be representatives of Ethena Lab, one of the more recognized projects in the DeFi space. The goal of this phishing strategy is to increase trust levels and convince users to click on malicious links or disclose sensitive information.

The messages are deliberately designed to appear as credible as possible, using professional language and fake verification badges. This social engineering approach is particularly dangerous because it exploits people’s natural tendency to trust accounts that appear to be officially verified.

Warning signs and how to protect yourself

To protect yourself against this type of phishing, always verify the authenticity of the verification badge by visiting the official profile of the project. Avoid clicking on links from direct messages that are not from verified accounts listed on the official authorized accounts list. Never share private keys, recovery phrases, or authentication details with unknown persons, regardless of how credible the message may seem.

The cybersecurity community continues to monitor these phishing campaigns and warn users about new tactics employed by attackers. Stay vigilant and stay informed about the most recently reported threats in the crypto community.
