Bosch supports Kodiak's expansion into the autonomous heavy truck market

Strategic Partnership Accelerates Commercialization of Autonomous Technology Solutions

Kodiak AI, specializing in autonomous transportation technology, has partnered with Bosch — a leading global supplier of automotive components. The goal of this initiative is to develop a modular hardware-software platform that will enable the conversion of conventional tractor-trailers into fully autonomous vehicles operating without a driver.

The announcement of this division coincided with the Consumer Electronics Show 2026 in Las Vegas, marking a key moment in the mainstream adoption of autonomous transportation solutions for the entire trucking industry. The integration of Bosch components will allow systems to be installed both during factory production and through specialized external operators.

From Pilot to Commercial Deployment

Kodiak’s history demonstrates dynamic progress in practical technology deployment. As early as August of the previous year, the company’s autonomous vehicles began regular deliveries of cargo for Atlas Energy Solutions in the Permian Basin area, covering parts of western Texas and eastern New Mexico. Current deliveries include at least eight unmanned vehicles, part of a larger order of one hundred units being prepared by Roush Industries.

Kodiak’s decision to go public via a merger with Ares Acquisition Corporation II in Q3 2025 further strengthened the company’s capital capabilities. Now, the company is actively working to make its solutions available to a broader range of participants in the transportation and logistics industry.

Redundancy and Modularity as Key Elements

The proposed design of Kodiak’s autonomous system is based on principles of redundancy for all critical functions — brakes, steering, sensory system, and onboard computing units. This approach ensures the highest level of operational safety.

Bosch will be responsible for providing advanced sensors and specialized guidance systems, forming the technical core of the modular solution. The flexible architecture will allow tractor-trailer manufacturers to adapt the system to existing platforms without the need for extensive vehicle modifications.

Vision for the Future of Autonomous Transportation

Don Burnette, founder and CEO of Kodiak, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: “Partnering with Bosch enables us to deliver a scalable, modular autonomous system that will be easy to service and seamlessly integrate both during factory production and later installation by third parties."

Paul Thomas, representing Bosch North America and Bosch Mobility Americas, sees this initiative as an opportunity to systematically expand presence in the autonomous heavy-duty vehicle market: “By providing production-ready components, we support a new wave of autonomous transportation together with Kodiak. The fact that Kodiak’s self-driving trucks are already operating commercially allows us to understand real market requirements and enrich our offerings for the entire mobility ecosystem."

Future of Technology and Timeline

Despite both organizations being ready to scale solutions and pursue further market expansion, the exact date for the availability of new autonomous systems for mass production remains unspecified. However, it is known that the collaboration will focus on creating redundant systems compatible with tractor-trailers from various manufacturers, thereby opening new opportunities for the entire professional transport sector.
