Crypto payments represent the natural evolution of digital finance. As blockchain networks scale and transaction speeds improve, payment functionality becomes the killer app that bridges Web3 with mainstream adoption. We're already seeing real-world use cases emerge—from cross-border settlements to instant micropayments that traditional systems can't match. The infrastructure is maturing, and sooner or later, payment integration will define which crypto ecosystems actually deliver practical value beyond speculation.

Honestly, payments have been hyped for many years, but there are still very few practical use cases that can be used now. Is this really different this time? It feels like just putting new wine in old bottles. Traditional finance is also optimizing cross-border settlement, so don't just focus on the advantages of crypto.

nah, killer app narrative is tired... show me the finality guarantees first. consensus layer still fragile when it matters.

To put it nicely, it's a payment solution; to put it bluntly, it's still just hype... It's still a long way from real large-scale adoption.

tbh the "killer app" framing here is exactly what the literature debunks. empirically speaking, payment velocity on chain still underperforms fiat rails when you factor in finality times and liquidity fragmentation. nobody's running their cafe on lightning unless they're performatively decentralized lol

That sounds nice, but what about reality? Large cross-border transfers still have to wait in line for confirmation.

NGL payments should have been popularized long ago; traditional bank cards have been bottlenecked for too long.

nah if you look at the data, most "payment" chains are just competing on speed metrics while ignoring settlement finality... technically speaking, we're still nowhere near sustainable tps for real adoption, degens keep ignoring correlation coefficients between volatility and actual merchant acceptance rates tbh

That's a good point, but can payment really become the killer app? There's still too much hype, and how many people are actually using it?

That's a good point, but I think the real bottleneck is still those old-fashioned traditional finance folks who are unwilling to accept it... No matter how fast the chain is, it can't withstand the hurdle of regulation.
