This development can be seen on the website of Iran’s Ministry of Defense Export Center Mindex, which claims to have clients in 35 countries. The company states in its “Frequently Asked Questions” that cryptocurrencies are a payment method, with specific virtual assets agreed upon in advance in the contract.

Other payment methods include cash, Iranian rials, barter, and special credit.

Products sold on the website include ammunition, high-impact weapons (such as rifles, machine guns, missiles), and military vehicles (such as tanks). Product prices are not displayed alongside the goods.

The Financial Times reports that this is one of the first countries to accept cryptocurrencies as a payment method for military equipment.

Iran’s economic difficulties worsened in 2018 when US President Trump decided to reimpose economic sanctions after withdrawing from the nuclear deal with the Asian country.

Additionally, in September of this year, the United Nations also reimposed sanctions on Iran after a decade. These reasons are also related to the organization’s accusations that the country failed to fulfill the terms of the nuclear agreement.
