PANews reported on January 2 that according to The Block, Ari Redbord, head of global policy and government affairs at cryptocurrency analytics firm TRM Labs, stated that 2025 is expected to be a record year for "crowbar" attacks, with approximately 60 physical assaults against cryptocurrency holders. Ari Redbord added: "The actual number is likely much higher. Many cases are only recorded as robberies or thefts, overlooking the cryptocurrency aspect; there are also cases that have never been reported because victims are hesitant or unsure about what law enforcement agencies will do regarding crimes related to cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, about 41 crowbar attacks were recorded in 2024, and approximately 36 crowbar attacks were documented in 2021."
