In 2025, on-chain privacy technology has reached a true turning point. Once a niche experiment within the geek community, it has now gained dual recognition from mainstream public blockchains and the capital markets.

Just look at what has happened this year. Zcash's annual increase exceeded 600%, clearly becoming the flagship of the entire privacy track. Meanwhile, leading public chains like Ethereum and Solana are actively promoting their respective native privacy solutions. Privacy infrastructure based on zero-knowledge proofs and fully homomorphic encryption continues to receive funding and market attention.

But this is just the beginning. The truly interesting question is—what will happen next?

I have four core predictions for 2026.

First, privacy features will upgrade from an "optional configuration" to a "standard default." In future blockchain competition, the combination of compliance verification and user privacy will become a core competitive advantage, no longer just an optional feature. This is a qualitative shift.

Second, the scope of privacy applications will be thoroughly expanded. Currently, when people think of privacy, their first reaction is transaction privacy. But by 2026, privacy will penetrate areas such as DeFi interactions, on-chain identity verification, and data trading markets. The combination of zero-knowledge proofs and fully homomorphic encryption will open new imaginative spaces in account abstraction, identity layers, and data layers.

Next, let's consider valuation logic. The market will start to distinguish between "privacy with real technological barriers" and "privacy that is just storytelling." This differentiation will create revaluation opportunities for established projects with actual technological breakthroughs, while also giving rise to new privacy sector leaders.

Finally, regulation is also crucial—regulators will not simply eliminate privacy through brute force, but will reshape the expression of privacy. Features like auditability and user-controlled disclosure will gradually become essential survival conditions for privacy protocols. This is not a restriction; rather, it signifies the maturity of privacy technology.

The privacy ecosystem in 2026 will be more complex and more vibrant than we imagine.

Is it true that ZEC increased by 600%, or is it just another hype before a new round of profit-taking? I trust the regulatory side, but don’t treat auditable features as a lifeline for privacy, okay? DeFi privacy interactions sound good, but I’m worried they’ll become money laundering tools again and then be targeted by governments worldwide. Those projects claiming to have technical barriers... uh, how should I put it, they are usually the loudest in bragging. Let’s wait and see who can survive next year. Anyway, my ZEC is already locked in. Privacy has shifted from the standard default to being squeezed out, and it’s only been the past two years. Still, the same old advice: supporting a track doesn’t mean supporting a specific project. Don’t go all-in on any privacy coin.

Zash 600% is too exaggerated, wake up everyone Wait a moment, can regulatory-friendly privacy really survive? This logic is a bit far-fetched... Just talking about default standards, how exactly to implement it? Still feels a bit uncertain, too idealistic DeFi privacy should have been popularized long ago, why are we only talking about it now

Wait, ZEC has increased by 600%? Why didn't I keep up... --- Again "standard default," and "core competitiveness," sound good, but can they really be implemented? --- Adding privacy to DeFi has huge potential, but I'm afraid it's just another empty promise. --- The logic of differentiated valuation is correct, but right now it's just a mess. --- Regulatory reshaping sounds better than elimination, but the question is who will define "auditability"? --- Talking so optimistically, it feels like a pre-promotion for 2026. --- Repricing old projects? First, see which ones really have technology.

nah zcash 600% move screams bubble, seen this movie before. "privacy as default" sounds nice until regulators actually show up lol
