Between mid-2024 and early 2025, blockchain games indeed experienced a wave of popularity, but there were also many stories of reality hitting hard. Market expectations were inflated, and most of the games that actually launched were underwhelming. Some teams even simply copied the Web2 model, not even reaching the level of 4399. What's more heartbreaking is that many well-made games shut down quickly after launch due to economic model collapses.
I have also participated in several projects in collaboration with major companies, and my biggest takeaway is that blockchain games cannot simply copy the economic logic of traditional games. The approach of mining, selling, and circulating a single currency is a script for failure from the start. Even in the Web2 space, truly self-sustaining economic cycle top-tier games are few and far between.
There's also an unavoidable pitfall: early benefits like whitelist and golden keys, which give players an advantage after the game launches, far surpassing later entrants, directly crushing new players. This is a problem that cannot be solved by technology or mechanisms.
Ultimately, the way forward for blockchain games still depends on the economic model. The circulation and trading of in-game assets, as well as the fairness of rewards, all rely on the technical features of blockchain platforms. This is where ImmutableX’s value becomes evident— as an important player in the blockchain game asset trading sector. With the upcoming collaboration with Ubisoft in 2026 and deeper cooperation with IIluvium, entering IMX now feels like a good timing. As an individual investor, my plan is to make phased spot investments, with 2026 as a key year for strategic deployment.
Can't even beat 4399, that analogy is spot on.
Projects with economic model collapses are really one after another. Early investors made a killing, while later entrants are simply being cut off.
The whitelist system is indeed a trap, latecomer players have no way out.
IMX's approach is good, let's see if Ubisoft's games in 2026 can truly be realized.
This wave of blockchain game hype is basically a bubble, and truly good products are few and far between.
