Marcelo Lu Steps Into Leadership Role At Clariant As Christian Vang Transitions Out

Swiss specialty chemical manufacturer Clariant AG has unveiled its executive succession plan, tapping Marcelo Lu to assume the presidency of Care Chemicals & Americas alongside a position on the Executive Steering Committee, commencing January 2026. This strategic appointment marks a significant transition as the company prepares for Christian Vang’s upcoming retirement that same year.

Lu brings substantial international experience to the role, having previously served as President of BASF Asia Pacific, excluding China, and held a Non-Executive Director position at BASF India Ltd. from his Singapore base. His appointment signals Clariant’s confidence in maintaining operational continuity across its Americas division and Care Chemicals segment.

The transition process has been carefully structured to ensure organizational stability. During the initial six-month period following his January 2026 start date, Marcelo Lu will operate from Clariant’s headquarters in Pratteln, Switzerland. This arrangement allows him to align with broader Group strategic initiatives while building relationships with key leadership stakeholders before fully assuming regional responsibilities.

Christian Vang’s departure will follow a thoughtful handover period. Rather than an abrupt exit, the outgoing president will remain available in an advisory capacity for six months post-transition, providing institutional knowledge and supporting the changeover process.
