Not everyone who mines Pi is optimistic about it; some people mine just for the free coins and will sell no matter how much it's worth once it's mapped. There are also those who don’t believe in it even after mining—they’ll sell as soon as it’s mapped. This accounts for a large proportion. If it weren’t for the elderly being convinced by 31, they would also sell right after mapping. For older people, earning ten or twenty thousand for something mined for free is already very good.
