Which AI foundation model research areas are flying under the radar?

NVIDIA's VP of Research, Ming-Yu Liu, dropped an interesting take: the biggest breakthroughs coming in 2026 might not be designed for human users at all.

Think about it - what if the next wave of AI models is built for machines to talk to machines? Agent-to-agent communication, autonomous systems coordinating without human input... that's where things get wild.

The infrastructure layer is evolving faster than most people realize.

No one is really paying attention to machine-to-machine conversations; instead, everyone is just competing over human user interactions...

ngl this is the real dark horse track. People are still arguing about whether large models can replace humans, but little do they know that machine-to-machine communication is the next big trend.

The machine-to-machine sector is indeed underestimated, but to be honest, I'm more concerned about who is making money behind the scenes.

The agent-to-agent part is indeed easily overlooked, but it feels like that's the real growth driver.
