Suspected ringleader of $243 million crypto theft case reportedly arrested, $18.58 million in on-chain assets seized

Abstract generation in progress

[BlockBeats] The British hacker Danny (also known as Meech, real name something like Danish Zulfiqar), who was involved in a major case, seems to have been taken down by the police recently, with his crypto assets also frozen and seized.

This guy has quite a background—he was one of the main suspects in the August of last year Genesis creditor hack, where $243 million was stolen, along with others like Malone and Veer. Even earlier, he was involved in the high-profile Kroll SIM swap attack in August 2023, where the personal information of a bunch of BlockFi, Genesis, and FTX creditors was leaked, leading to targeted phishing scams that caused over $300 million in damages.

On-chain sleuths have been tracking this group’s movements. Just a few hours ago, multiple wallet addresses linked to Danny suddenly consolidated $18.58 million worth of assets into an address starting with 0xb37d—this operation pattern closely matches the typical on-chain signature when law enforcement seizes assets. Looks like he’s really been caught this time.

Finally caught this guy, it should’ve happened long ago. Scum will get exposed eventually, but can that $18.58 million be recovered? I’ve seen this move too many times—once the assets are transferred, they're gone. Danny’s down this time, but what about his gang of troublemakers? Wait, can they really freeze that much? On-chain tracking is getting more and more intense.

Finally caught this guy, huh? A $243 million case, unbelievable. If you don't run off-chain, you'll really get everything dug up; $18.58 million frozen just like that. I still remember that SIM swap incident, $300 million loss... only now getting caught? These guys are pretty skilled too, just ended up being tracked and became transparent. But at the end of the day, it all depends on whether the prosecution can hold up.

Haha, finally got caught. This guy was way too arrogant. --- Another one who thought he was invincible on-chain, but reality still gave him a lesson. --- $243 million just gone like that, the ecosystem is really outrageous. --- Danny really went too far this time; with all his assets frozen, how can he escape now? --- Should've been caught sooner, these people are way too destructive. --- Just heard that the assets were seized—finally some justice, right? --- That SIM swap attack was insane—$300 million lost because of these guys. --- So many people in the chat group were waiting to hear about his arrest, haha. --- Nowhere to hide on-chain. Honestly, this was a good catch. --- $18.58 million gone, this is a huge loss. --- What will happen to Malone and Veer next? Feels like they're still going to keep going.

Finally got caught, this guy is really something. Danny is definitely going in for this one, and there’s no way he’s running away with $18.58 million. SIM swapping and crypto theft again, this gang is ruthless. Knew they’d slip up when consolidating assets—there’s really nowhere to hide on the blockchain. $300 million in losses, this case is going to be tough for him. On-chain sleuths really did a great job this time, hats off to them. Can the Genesis people recover anything? I feel a bit sorry for them. Another genius kid gone down the wrong path, sigh. That’s why I always say crypto needs to stay on-chain and transparent—no way to cover it up forever.

Damn, finally caught him. This guy has been stirring things up for so long. Danny is seriously impressive—he managed to pull off a $243 million case all by himself. It was uncovered by on-chain detectives. The long arm of the law always gets its man. Now the $18.58 million can’t escape either, but I’m really curious how many assets are still hidden out there. Malone, Veer, and those guys should start watching their backs too.
