Chinese navigator Zhai Mo set sail from Shanghai on October 10, 2025, for a round-the-world sailing trip. Recently, when he arrived in Papua New Guinea, he was extorted by the local government.
The customs authorities required everyone to disembark for inspection, leaving the boat unattended. When they returned, the boat had been completely stripped. Expensive satellite navigation systems, generators, and engines were all removed. Before leaving, they even opened the underwater valves, intending to flood and sink the boat.
