Gitcoin is shutting down. The project's founder Kevin Owocki just announced that Grants Lab—the core software development team—will be discontinued on May 31, 2025, and the Grants Stack product will no longer be maintained.

The reason? The Web3 public goods funding landscape is shifting, key team members have left, and there's no sustainable revenue model in sight. Gitcoin is pivoting to a leaner Grants operations focus and offering severance packages to affected staff.

This is a major blow to the ecosystem. Grants Lab has been one of the few reliable infrastructure projects supporting builders in Web3. Worth watching how this impacts the broader ecosystem funding landscape.
