#KOL星火计划破千

According to a report by Yonhap News Agency this morning, Lotte Card has announced that it has applied to the South Korean Patent Office for a total of 36 trademark rights related to the Korean won stablecoin. According to the official statement, this application includes 12 brand name trademarks such as "원빗", "케이토큰", "로카머니", as well as 24 Tickers used for identifying virtual asset exchanges such as "WONBIT", "KTOKEN", "LOCAMONEY".

Stablecoins are seen as a bridge connecting fiat currency and digital assets, and are considered key to promoting the digitalization of daily payments. Lotte Card stated that in the future, the Korean won stablecoin is expected to be used in the trading markets of high-value assets such as used cars, luxury goods, real estate, and gold, and will combine with its extensive payment network and a prepaid platform specifically for foreign tourists to seize the opportunity.

South Korean financial giants compete

The actions of Lotte Card are not an isolated case. Recently, major South Korean credit card companies, including Shinhan Card(, KB Kookmin Card), and Woori Card(, have also applied for stablecoin trademarks, reflecting that traditional financial institutions are actively exploring the application of blockchain and digital assets. According to data from the Financial Supervisory Service of South Korea, by the end of 2024, the number of virtual asset users in South Korea has exceeded 6 million, and the market size continues to expand.
