The European Union will begin imposing tariffs on American imported goods starting April 15.
On April 7, European Commission Vice President Šefčovič stated that the EU will impose the first batch of tariffs on US imports starting from April 15, and the second batch starting from May 15. The EU is imposing tariffs on the US in response to the Trump administration’s decision to levy tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles, as well as a 20% uniform tariff on other goods. In addition, the EU will establish an import supervision task force to monitor the potential diversion of goods due to US tariffs. European Commission President von der Leyen said, “This is a significant turning point for the United States.” “Nevertheless, we are always ready to negotiate with the United States.” (Jin10)
