Recently, I needed to register some overseas accounts for testing and suddenly realized one card wasn't enough. Later, I found out about the virtual number platforms that allow receiving SMS verification codes, saving the trouble of buying multiple SIM cards. After trying out a few unreliable platforms, I compiled a list of trustworthy ones to share with everyone.
Basically, these verification code platforms are about renting temporary phone numbers, covering countries worldwide. After registration, you select a country code, and the verification code appears directly in the backend. Unlike regular numbers, they charge per use, and some support monthly subscriptions, making them especially suitable for people who frequently need virtual numbers. You don’t have to reveal your real number or worry about spam, which is very convenient for testing.
A few I’ve personally tested: SMS-Activate responds the fastest, usually within 10 seconds, and covers all countries. Super Cloud SMS has very stable domestic number segments, and US numbers are also good, though sometimes slow during peak hours. 5SIM has the most user-friendly interface, with clear API documentation, making it easy to register for Google, Twitter, and others. Little Bird Verification is especially suitable for testing domestic applications, with verification arriving in about 5-15 seconds and good cost performance. Getsmscode is cheap, but sometimes delays on less common platforms.
A few points to note when using: shared numbers are often already registered, and virtual numbers can sometimes be blocked by the target service, so it’s best to prepare several alternatives. The stability varies greatly across platforms, so don’t just pick the cheapest option. My suggestion is, if you’re just testing APIs, any platform supporting API access will do; but if you need stable registration for a specific website, it’s best to load multiple numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Some platforms also have a one-click number switch feature, which is especially practical.
Overall, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the best, with low latency, wide country coverage, and suitability for cross-border application testing. The other platforms each have their advantages; just choose based on your specific needs.
