Trump: Will end the Iran operation "fairly quickly" but may still carry out "targeted strikes"

Xinhua News Agency Washington, April 1 — U.S. President Trump on April 1 said that the United States will “end military operations against Iran quite soon,” but may continue to attack Iran with “targeted strikes” if necessary.

In an exclusive interview with Reuters, Trump said, “We will withdraw from Iran very soon,” but did not disclose a specific timetable.

Trump claimed that U.S. military actions have ensured that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons. “They will not have nuclear weapons because they currently lack that capability. I will leave, I will take everyone away. If necessary, we will return for targeted strikes.”

Later that day, Trump delivered a nationwide speech on Iran. He said he would express “disgust with NATO” in the speech because NATO allies do not support U.S. actions against Iran, and he is “absolutely” considering withdrawing the U.S. from NATO.

Before the Reuters interview was published, Trump said on social media that Iran had “just requested a ceasefire from the United States,” but the U.S. would only “consider” it when the Strait of Hormuz is open.
