🔥Trump warns Iran not to charge tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, adding uncertainty to the ceasefire agreement


On April 10, U.S. President Trump warned Iran that it must not charge tolls to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the relevant conduct “violates the ceasefire agreement,” and demanding that Iran “stop immediately.” Currently, even though the U.S. and Iran have reached a two-week ceasefire, passage through the strait is still significantly restricted. Ship traffic is far below normal levels, and there are still large numbers of vessels stuck inside the Persian Gulf, with the recovery of energy transport lagging behind expectations. Trump’s remarks indicate that the U.S. opposes Iran using its control over the strait to obtain economic gains, and it has previously proposed the idea of the U.S. collecting tolls.
