(MENAFN) Bahrain announced late Wednesday that its air defense systems have intercepted and destroyed 234 drones and 132 missiles launched from Iran since the end of last month.

In a statement, the Bahrain Defense Force said it continues to respond to repeated waves of what it described as Iranian attacks directed at the country.

The statement did not provide specific information regarding casualties or physical damage resulting from the attacks.

Reports indicate that tensions across the region have escalated following joint US-Israeli military operations against Iran that began on February 28, which have reportedly resulted in around 1,300 deaths, including senior figures such as the then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets. Some of these attacks have resulted in casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, and residential and commercial buildings.
