Ryder System, Inc. ® unveiled its leadership succession strategy on Friday, with John Diez set to take over as Chief Executive Officer starting March 31, 2026. The logistics and transportation company’s board has approved the transition plan, positioning Diez to lead the organization through the next phase of its growth.
The Incoming Chief Executive
Diez, who currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer, will step into the top role after demonstrating strong operational excellence across Ryder’s three core business divisions. Since assuming his COO position on January 1, 2025, he has overseen Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), Supply Chain Solutions (SCS), and Dedicated Transportation Solutions (DTS). His appointment to the board will also take effect on the same date, signaling the company’s confidence in his strategic direction.
A Track Record of Financial and Operational Leadership
Before moving into operations, Diez spent years managing Ryder’s financial functions as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. His career within the company spans more than two decades, beginning in 2002. During this tenure, he held pivotal roles leading the fleet management business—overseeing fleet operations and maintenance—and served as president of the dedicated transportation unit, where he drove significant revenue expansion and enhanced operational returns. His earlier professional foundation came from KPMG LLP’s audit practice, where he honed his analytical and financial acumen.
Ensuring Business Continuity
Robert Sanchez, who has led Ryder as CEO since January 2013 and as Chairman since May 2013, will assume the position of executive chairman following his retirement on March 31, 2026. This arrangement ensures continuity during the transition period and provides strategic oversight as the company moves forward under new executive leadership.
