Iran's Unmanned Aircraft Attacks UAE's Shah Gas Field, First Time Damaging the Country's Upstream Oil and Gas Facilities

GateNews

Gate News reports that on March 17, Iran intensified its strikes on key energy nodes, with a drone attack igniting the Shah natural gas field inside the UAE. This is the first time during the conflict that Iran has damaged UAE oil and gas upstream facilities.

The Shah gas field is located near the border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and is operated jointly by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Occidental Petroleum. The UAE government stated that operations at the gas field have been suspended, and there were no casualties on site.

Affected by multiple drone and missile attacks, the UAE closed its airspace at night, with air traffic resuming normal operations on Tuesday morning. The day before the attack, Iran also struck a fuel depot at Dubai’s main airport, causing a large plume of smoke over the world’s busiest international aviation hub and briefly disrupting flights.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Trump called on allies to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transportation route.
