Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart analyzed the fund flow trends of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs over the past year. Despite a challenging period for crypto ETFs at the end of 2025, they still demonstrated relative resilience and saw significant capital replenishment at the start of 2026.

Bitcoin ETF Shows Strong Resilience with Significant Capital Replenishment on the First Day of the Year

Although from November to December 2025, the U.S. Bitcoin spot ETF experienced net outflows exceeding $6 billion, attracting market attention, data from Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart indicates that this outflow accounted for less than 10% of the peak inflows of $62 billion in October of the same year. This suggests that most investors continue to hold long-term, and year-end outflows are more likely due to tax planning rather than trend reversals, reflecting the market resilience of this asset class.

On the first day of 2026, (1/2), Bitcoin ETFs saw a net inflow of $471 million, with BlackRock’s IBIT alone receiving nearly $290 million. This was the largest net inflow within 35 trading days since 11/11, when 11 U.S. ETFs collectively saw inflows of $524 million in a single day.

Initial data from January 5 also shows continued capital inflows, indicating that investors are reactivating asset allocation plans as they enter the new year.

Ethereum ETF Outflows Higher Due to Weak ETH Price

Compared to Bitcoin’s stability, the U.S. Ethereum spot ETF has a relatively higher outflow rate, currently around 18%. After reaching a peak of $15 billion in October 2025, the total outflows amount to approximately $2.8 billion. Nonetheless, Seyffart believes that considering the price volatility of Ether (ETH) itself, this outflow proportion remains within a reasonable range.

On the first day of 2026, (1/2), Ethereum ETFs recorded an inflow of $175 million, the largest single-day inflow in 15 trading days, with Grayscale’s ETHE receiving the largest capital influx. Although the data for 1/5 has not been fully released, it appears that capital continues to flow in.
