Trump claims he will impose tariffs on key products, but there is still uncertainty surrounding the policy.
According to Reuters, U.S. President Trump stated that he will soon announce tariffs on automobiles, aluminum, and pharmaceutical products, claiming that in times of war and other crises, the U.S. will need these critical products. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick added at the meeting that the U.S. plans to launch a tariff collection mechanism called the “External Revenue Service” on April 2, corresponding to the domestic IRS. Previously, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg reported that the White House may not announce tariff plans for industries such as automobiles, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals on April 2, and the policy remains uncertain.
