Netflix director accused of defrauding 11 million dollars, with funds allegedly used for Crypto Assets and luxury goods.

Recently, Netflix director Carl Erik Rinsch has been charged with telecom fraud and money laundering, accused of misappropriating $11 million in funds that were originally intended for the production of his sci-fi TV series "White Horse," which instead were used for trading Crypto Assets and purchasing luxury goods.

In 2018, Rinsch struck a deal with a streaming platform (believed to be Netflix) to secure a $44 million budget to produce White Horse. In 2019 and early 2020, he asked for an additional $11 million, which he claimed would be used for program production.

However, after receiving the money, Rinsch did not use it as planned, but instead transferred the funds into a personal brokerage account and began engaging in speculative securities trading, resulting in a loss of more than half of the funds within two months.

Even more outrageous is that Rinsch did not reinvest the remaining money into the show, but instead turned to Crypto Assets trading and continued to spend lavishly on luxury goods.

According to the indictment, he spent nearly 1.8 million dollars on credit card payments, 1 million dollars on legal fees (including lawsuits against streaming services and divorce costs), and another 395,000 dollars on luxury hotels and rental properties.

Rinsch's extravagant spending is staggering, including spending $638,000 on two mattresses and $295,000 on luxury bedding; purchasing five Rolls Royces and one Ferrari, totaling $2.4 million; and spending $652,000 on branded watches and clothing.

It is reported that this is not the first time Rinsch has been involved in controversy. In 2023, he made a profit of 27 million by investing 4 million dollars from the budget of another program into DOGE, and nearly 9 million was used to purchase luxury goods, including high-end furniture, designer clothing, a 380,000 dollar watch, and luxury cars.

Rinsch is currently facing one charge of telecommunications fraud, one charge of money laundering, and five charges of financial transactions. If all the charges are established, he may spend the rest of his life in prison!

In summary, from the Netflix director to the defendant, Rinsch's story is even more "exciting" than his TV series. Will he pay the price for his actions in the future? We shall wait and see.

Do you think Rinsch's actions are a regulatory loophole in the industry? Leave a comment in the discussion!
